BAGUIO CITY — Local officials and thousands of residents here are eagerly awaiting the arrival of World Boxing Organization (WBO) super lightweight champion Manny Pacquiao and three-time Trainer of the Year Freddie Roach as they start their four-week training in preparation for his much-awaited fight with Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico on November 14 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Former Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) president and city councilor Rufino Panagan, a local boxing promoter, said Pacquiao’s team will be arriving either on Thursday or Friday with local police ready to secure the boxer and his entourage.
Pacquiao’s training, however, will be closed to the public in order for the champion and his trainer to concentrate on the job at hand.
While residents are eager to have a glimpse of Pacquiao’s training, Mayor Reinaldo A. Bautista Jr. appealed to the people and tourists to stay away from the training camp of the world champion so as not to distract his attention in the conduct of his daily routine.
The local chief executive said local residents must show their respect to Team Pacquiao.
