I’m Really Disappointed in Pacquiao

I keep hearing about how Manny Pacquiao is the pound for pound number #1 fighter in boxing, yet the biggest wins of Pacquiao’s career – Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton and Juan Manuel Marquez – have been tarnished because of either the catch weight that they had to come in at or the fact that it didn’t appear to be a win at all (Marquez).

Now, with Pacquiao insisting on the almost shot Miguel Cotto to come in at 142 or 143, I’m thinking Pacquiao is afraid to fight a top welterweight without them coming in at one of Pacquiao’s energy draining catch weights. I don’t why Pacquiao can’t man up and fight Cotto – or whoever – at their weight class rather than making them strip off weight to fight.
That to me seems really weak and I can’t respect Pacquiao or any fighter that needs a crutch like that in order to get an extra edge. Look, if Pacquiao doesn’t have the courage to fight Cotto at 147, then so be it. Stay at 140 and fight the best fighters at that weight class like Marcos Maidana, Juan Manuel Marquez, Timothy Bradley or Nate Campbell, but don’t force a fighter like Cotto to have to squeeze down to some god awful catch weight just to get an extra edge. That seems totally unsporting and kind of pathetic if you ask me.

I see it as something that taints Pacquiao, because if he’s suck a fearless fighter like some of his legions of sycophants try to portray him, then he should have the gonads to step it up against a fighter like Cotto at the full 147 pound weight limit. I disqualify Pacquiao’s win over De La Hoya for that very reason.

Pacquiao wanted the respect that goes along with beating De La Hoya, but then couldn’t – or wouldn’t – fight De La Hoya at his natural weight and made the proud warrior melt down to a weight (147) that he hadn’t fought at in ions just so that he could get an edge. De La Hoya, as good as he is, couldn’t fight at the weight draining 147 pound limit anymore.

If Pacquiao can’t handle fighting someone without a catch weight, then he needs to step off the stage and quit crowing about wanting to fight the best fighter. Cotto isn’t the best at welterweight and it seems sad that he’s been picked over Mosley or Paul Williams, but what can you say? That’s how Pacquiao picks them.

  1. This is a classic example of a Pacquiao hater... First of all, you need to check your sources of information before making comments! Secondly, you need to understand that it's the Promoters who set up fights & conditions! So you blaming Pacquiao for Catchweight has no basis... Pacquiao was willing to fight Mosley @ 147lbs... Pacquiao is a true warrior & regardless of what you think, he will be in the Boxing Hall of Fame someday!!!
