WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto is already mapping out the plan to beat Manny Pacquiao on November 14. The biggest concern for Cotto is Pacquiao's speed. He wants to have the best sparring partners possible to create a strategy to neutralize Pacquiao's speed. One fighter who pledged his support, and Cotto will seriously consider using, is WBO junior flyweight champion Ivan Calderon.
Calderon has a fight coming on September with Pacquiao's countryman, Rodel Mayol. He is willing to help Pacquiao in any way possible. Calderon is one of the best pure boxers in the sport and considered one of the fastest fighters around. He is also a southpaw, like Pacquiao. Last year, Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach spilled the beans on the infamous story on how Calderon boxed Oscar De La Hoya's ears off during a sparring session in 2007 when Oscar was using Calderon as a sparring partner to prepare for his bout with Floyd Mayweather Jr. Roach always saw the Calderon sparring session as a clear sign that Pacquiao would dominate De La Hoya.
"It's something that I'm going to consider. Ivan has everything, and he moves very fast," Cotto told Primera Hora.
