WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto has stayed in shape since the June win over Joshua Clottey. Cotto recently revealed that he is less than 20-pounds away from the 145-pound catch-weight for his November 14 bout with Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas.
Cotto plans to train in Puerto Rico until September 19 and will then head to Florida to finish up his training camp. The Puerto Rican star told Primera Hora about he is interest edin fighting for the WBC's Diamond Belt, the new title the sanctioning body created for mega-fight bouts that are fought at a catch-weight. Cotto says if the deal is fight, he will consider fighting Pacquiao for that title.
The Diamond Belt comes a lower sanctioning fee than a regular title fight. The WBC would like the Cotto-Pacquiao bout to have the Diamond Belt at stake, and September's Mayweather-Marquez bout, being fought at 144-pounds, to be contested for the title as well.
