I’m pissed and tired – Roach

As the sun began to set in Los Angeles on Friday, Freddie Roach was still at the Wild Card Boxing Club nursing hopes that his phone would ring and that Manny Pacquiao – or even somebody from the Filipino’s camp – would be on the other line.

“Nope,” Roach answered when asked whether there’s been contact with Team Pacquiao the past 24 hours. “I am pissed and I am tired of these guys. They treat me like shit.”

Roach was referring to Pacquiao’s advisers Mike Koncz and lawyer Franklin Gacal, whom the multi-awarded trainer says have benefited financially from the fighter’s meteoric rise.

“I know what’s best for my fighter,” said Roach, who is against Pacquiao’s plans to set up camp in Baguio.

Pacquiao has been forced to look for a place to train owing to an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) provision that – if violated – will result in Pacquiao paying millions in taxes to the IRS.

Roach had been hoping that his repeated cries all over the Internet would compel Pacquiao or his aides and advisers to pacify the 48-year-old trainer by assuring him that all is well in the often chaotic world of Pacquiao.

Roach said the city of Toluca in Mexico looks to be a perfect venue for Pacquiao’s preparation, stressing that state-owned training facility will be more than ready to play host to somebody like Pacquiao.

Roach said a friend of his, Joseph Brown, is willing to lend a hand in having the Toluca camp reserved for certain hours for Pacquiao’s use.

“I stayed in Toluca and found it to be secluded enough from the mainstream public, yet functional with enough amenities to serve this purpose quite well,” Brown said in an email to Roach.

Brown said a Mexico-based Cuban cruiserweight, Carlos Duarte, works as a trainer in Toluca and assures Roach and his team that the red carpet will be rolled for Pacquiao.

Other venues being looked at are Cancun and Nuevo Vallarta, famed resort cities in Mexico.

Still, Roach is not ruling out the possibility of making that back-breaking flight to Manila accompanied by Pacquiao sparring partners. Roach has tapped Raymund Serrano, Shawn Porter, and Urbano Antillon as guys Pacquiao would spar with in the eight-week training camp.

“I will do the best I can (if Manny decides to train there),” said Roach, who has trained the 30-year-old lefty since mid-2001.

  5. It's better for manny to lose this time. He's not that eager to fight anymore.

If he gets hurt, he'll quit! what's the point to win.

Manny is not interested to win this time. This is his last fight i supposed. Nawiwili na sa showBiz. You know the Visayan mentality.

Look at Onyok Velasco. Nawili sa ShowBiz. hehehe!

Konz and other people around Manny are leeches. They'll be away when they're full. That's it, That's Life.

And for Roach, don't bother! Leave it. Stay focus on other thing's. It's not worth it!

I they treat you like Sh!t! Then To Hell with them.

  6. Cotto can hit but is slow as hell. Cotto will be hit so many times his face will be messed up. Look everyone Cotto comes foward and at times walks back, no movement but power. Power does not have to be a factor as we learn from Ali vs Forman ect...Why are Cotto fans upset about the weight it only two pounds you can take a shit and already loss a pound, his last fight Cotto weighed 146. Also Sugar Ray lenard and other past fighters did the samething this is Pacman first catchweight fools don't be mad that Manny picked Cotto Fools Cotto agred to the fight Cotto is stupid then Cotto doesnt think. Pacman fought way more top fighters then Cotto. Remember Pacman is a born puncher and punchers are born not made as said by Teddy Atlas. Guys Pacman started at Flyweight 106 pounds this guy was a jockey does that amaze you and is power since then traveled up through the weights. Power does not win fights but speed, lateral movement. Pacman is going to win by points but i dont see a ko win..

  7. Pacquiao is going down this time, it's all good, it is his last fight and he's already in the hall of fame, it doesn't matter if he loses..

  8. if Pacquiao should be given a lesson; this is the time. Roach can survive as the best trainer in the world without Manny. NO Filipino can be as good as Manny without the kind of influence Freddie Roach has given him. Even if Manny has reached the skill-set he has right now; Filipinos have no discipline when they are in their own country, so he wouldn't be able to rise up and be the star boxer that he is right now.

Mr Roach, you have my respect and admiration. Give these guys a lesson, tell them you are quitting as head trainer. Cite these leeches and hangers' on as excuse. This reason is SO valid. If they think Pacquiao can survive without you, then good. If he wins without you, then fine; but lo and behold if he loses and the chances of him losing is massive........you will witness the bloodsucking leeches drop-off their host, one by one after they have flattered the gullible champion. I cannot really understand why Pacquiao has been ill-advised by lawyers and politicians of ill-repute in our country. His lawyer doesn't even look like he won a single case back home. He should change that lawyer with someone who is not biased and have no self-serving interest every time he fights.

Manny Pacquiao, face the music. Nobody cares about your music career; your voice is not even pleasant to listen to. Nobody cares about your movies; your Visayan accent would not make it to mainstream Manila and be patronized by the movie going public there. Nobody cares about your hosting; you cannot even pronounce well. Nobody really cares for you during social gatherings; be real. These elitist people who hover around you wouldn't even give you the time of the day if not for your BOXING SKILLS AND FAME. The BOXING SKILLS AND FAME that were not possible without the aid and assistance of Freddie Roach. Wake up before it's too late. People care about you and boxing. People care about the kind of persona that you are with your coach Freddie. People laugh at you when you have an entourage of 12 or 13 with around 9 or ten of whom are bums. Now, listen... no one is laughing. We are witnessing the classic case of fame going to one's head and destroying the person's sound judgment. God forbid, that you become poor again. You have kids man. Have you forgotten Navarette? He's from the same place where you hail.

So again Mr Roach, drop Manny now and concentrate of Amir Khan and show the world what you can mold out of fighters who have sounder minds than Manny who has been polluted by the "toxic" influence of Konz, Gacal, Joson et. al.

Show Manny the way out......you have the right as you are the one who took him in when no one even bothered. As much as I follow Manny's career from Blow-by-Blow days up to now; he deserves a whipping this time. Let him go coach; let him sing, let him act, let him host, let him go to public office....... he is one obstinate fool and he deserves to be disciplined. Pacquiao thinks the whole country of the Philippines is eager to see him act, hear him sing and watch him host. How wrong is he when his convoluted mind has been twisted to incessant exposure to pests around him. God gave him a unique gift.... which people now capitalize on for their own material gain.

Are you sure it's just "Visayan" mentality? Kindly do research before you say something whatsoever it is. Go figure and look at yourself in the mirror.

  11. I am a diehard Pacquiao fanatic but I hope this Manny loses this time, and I hope he loses his election bid. He has a head that's grown out of proportion with his body that only Chavit Singson and Gacal can manipulate. He thinks he's superhuman. Learn from the lady who clobbered you in the last election!

  14. For Roach not to connect and get in touch with Pacquiao and Pacquiao not even touch base with Roach in return,is an insult and demeaning to the coach. If somebody answers and picks up a phone in the Philippines from the Team Pacquiao for Roach to talk to Pacquiao, that somebody should give that phone to Manny or very damn well try hard to have Pacquiao return the call. But if the Team Pacquiao entourage hasn't done any credible and urgent moves to have the two people touch base, then something is awry.Remember that September/2009 is fast approaching.Do something about this episode,Pacquiao.Or you might lose this coach. He is being to be treated as a token.

Dont worry about manny's business he can take care of all your worries. he used to that kind of psychological operation. its part of manny's strategy.

  19. Doesn't matter where Pacquiao trains. Doesn't matter who trains him. Cotto will kill the beejeezuz out of this balloon-headed, overhyped, cherry-picking fraud. Nov 14 is the day of reckoning. Cotto will put Pacquiao where he belongs -- with Boom Boom Bautista! -Batangueño

  21. I once saw Manny and his entourage in West Hollywood where I work as a Supermarket General Manager. Someone from Manny's camp called in a day before and ordered 60 T-bone steaks valued at about 10 dollars each. To my surprize the following day, Manny and about 4 of his friends arrived and manny ended up spending about 1000 dollars cash on the steaks and a bunch of other stuff for his entourage. That man is very generous and I hope he destroys cotto.

  23. I hope roach will not loose his patience. Manny has been fighting half his life and it looks like he is beginning to burn out now. if this continues, Cotto should take advantage of this. Manny does not need the win anyway. He has achieved so much what else can he ask for? He is 2009 Time's top 100 most influential people, fighter of the decade, P4P king, holder of ring magazine, and ranks 6th in Forbes' top 10 richest highest paid athlete. Manny should give way for guys like cotto who will get his biggest purse ever in the pacman fight win or lose.
