Santiago: “Pacquiao is a bloated 126 pounds”

By Manuel Perez: Miguel Cotto’s excellent trainer Joe Santiago had some insight into Cotto’s opponent Manny Pacquiao, saying to El Nuevo “Manny Pacquiao is a bloated 126 pounds. He’s a fighter who started at 108 pounds and has reached 145. It is very bold and so far has gone well, but on November 14, it’ll be different.” This is the first person that has come forward and said exactly what I’ve thinking for a long time about Pacquiao since he started moving up in weight.

Pacquiao looks like he’s eaten too much food and is about to explode. He’s not made to put on that kind of weight and something has got to give. As soon as Cotto attacks Pacquiao’s midsection, I expect the Filipino to weaken rapidly and maybe go down early. To me, Pacquiao looks like a fighter that has gone too far with his eating and needs to back off and step away from the dinner table.

“We have great respect for his career and hats off to him for what he’s done in boxing, but on that day Miguel will be the stronger man in the ring,” Santiago said. I absolutely agree with you, Mr. Santiago. I couldn’t have said it better myself. I have lots of respect for Pacquiao as a fighter. He’s accomplished a lot beating fighters, many of them I’ve never heard of, and captured this and that titles along the way.

But on November 14th, Cotto is going to put Pacquiao in his place and knock him back down to the super featherweight division where he belongs. It’s nice that Pacquiao was able to beat an old weight drained war horse like Oscar De La Hoya and take advantage of an overrated Ricky Hatton, but on November 14th, Pacquiao will be facing the real deal in World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Miguel Cotto and he’ll be in way over his head.

The weight that Pacquiao has put on, roughly 20 pounds of useless muscle, will only slow him down as it did the valiant Juan Manuel Marquez in his battle against the huge Floyd Mayweather Jr. And we will then see Pacquiao likely getting battered around the ring like a human piñata for Cotto.

Pacquiao has received credit for beating Hatton and De La Hoya, but the people who are all over Pacquiao, patting him on the back 24/7 and saying how great he is, seem to have lost track of who Pacquiao really beat to get all the praise. They need to focus for a second and clear their heads about Pacquiao’s so-called greatness and realize that he didn’t beat Paul Williams, Shane Mosley, Cotto or even Andre Berto.

Pacquiao beat De La Hoya and Hatton. There’s a big difference between beating up Hatton, De La Hoya and winning a questionable 12 round decision over the great Marquez, than there is beating a top welterweight who fights at that weight, isn’t drained from making weight and isn’t over the hill. I see pain, a lot of it for Pacquiao on November 14th against Cotto, and it doesn’t matter if Pacquiao eats himself up to 145, he’s just going to make a louder impact when he gets dropped by Cotto.

  4. Common Mr. Santiago. Pacquaiao will KO Cotton within 7 rounds. When Pacquaio started his boxing career at 108 lbs. he was malnourished then and when he defeated Barrera he started to eat a lot especialy nutrituios food and today his natural weight is between around 145 lbs. I read a lot of articles arguing his weight and why he still did good moving up and fighting much bigger to him. So boxing fanatics and writers this is the reason why Pacquiao is much stronger as he moved up in weight. He was malnourished before and his weight today is his natural weight.-ferdie sta.ana

  7. 100 thrown punches by pacman to cotto, in 12 rounds it will be 1,200, think about it... your man will be A Smashed potatoes...MR. MANUEL PEREZ...

  8. Yes, some of us Filipinos eat dogs. Like ancient Chinese and Indians do. But you do eat lamb, right? Have pity on these harmless animals. Also the defenseless pigeons. We Filipinos don't have a heart to eat lamb and pigeons because they look so tame, harmless and defenseless. We are that cultured, you know.

By the way, we are a republican country having won independence from Spain and the USA by fighting those conquerors. That's the Filipino spirit: valiant, courageous. We are not a PROTECTORATE of the USA, are you?

  11. I think you need to count the number of crisp and accurare hard punches of pacquiao every round and think of how you are going to match it. The pacman is not new to this contest. I hope you have a research on how many top rated fighters pacman had beaten convincingly. Cotto is too slow and his punches is 1 sec late than pacman could land. If cotto had the speed of mayweather then pacman's game is over. If you can make cotto move like mayweather then u will when. But how you are going to do that? Please review tapes of cotto's fight and work on your speed.

  12. I would like you to watchout during the fight this....cotto has the normal tendency to throw a left hook body shot and by doing that he needs to dig down coz pac is smaller but he is slow...he is very perfect for the powerful left hook of the pacman that made hatton fall asleep..pacmans fist will land first...watchout for that. remember what happened to marquez when he tried to dig down hiss left to the body of pac..he is very open for the powerful quick left of pac so his head bounces on the canvass......WATCHOUT!

  13. boxingnews24.com is pacman hater. i don't know why? but please know how the pac had progressed. You can watch his previous fights and watch closely. He is not the same how he moves. His defense and offense is so good now. Look at your fighters how they progressed. That is why it's easy for Roach to predict the outcome of pac fights. Most fighters never progressed. They are using the same artillery every battle. If you are a boxing trainor then you can understand...You can understand why the Pacman is so great. You are going to watch a Pacman "Performance". I would like you to know also that PACMAN is an actor and as an actor he has the urgency to perform always at the highest level that the audience will be satisfied and come back again for another PACMAN SHOW. YOU WILL BE WATCHING A SHOW THIS COMING NOV. 14. HOPE THIS TIME YOU WILL APPRECIATE boxingnews24.com. There is always spectacles in the PACMAN show. You will never know what will happen but sure you will be amazed and entertained. This what MANNY PACQUIAO is all about. "A BOXING PERFORMER".

  15. the pac's move up in weight is all but natural.no form of bodybuilding or overeating.in the marquez fight he gained 15 pounds more on fight night.a 130 pound division.at that time he already outgrown this division probably long enough already.that time he is looking forward to be in 140 division but had to drop by in 135.a tuneup in the person of diaz.the dream match was setup afterwards because if delahoya is willing to go down to 147 to fight pacquiao, might as well pacquiao will had a one 147 outing with delahoya before he settles in 140 division.as for this time being the pac is a legit 140 pounder who could fight at 147 but i think his body is still growing naturally and he will settle at a 147 weight division after the cotto fight.he might be a moderate welterweight but he has the power of an elite junior welter.what more can you ask for rather than a welterweight with a punch of a lightweight in the likes of floyd.

  17. people who don't like pacman, will comment negative things against him but who cares, say whatever they say, do whatever they do,because everything they day and do are nonsense.what useless muscle he is talking about, pacmans' training is like not stop, the food that he eats are not oilly food or lots of fats,he eat mostly none fatty food, he is not white who likes hamburger and french fries a lot,the food he eats have lots of protien and carbohydrates, food that can help to built real muscles.he sweat a lot, that means some of the food that has fats has all gone after 8hours or more of training.this writer didn't see pacman's training yet that's why he made up his nonsense story, just like mayweather sr.

  18. this trainer sounds like he bet his property in favor of cotto against pacman, you didn't see nothing yet my man,if that's your prediction that's upside down, you better train cotto some more in order not to loss your property, pacman still explosive and the speed still there, what advantages that cotto has which pacman has not?

  19. Pacman is a typical Filipino, give him a foot and he will take a yard! This Welterweight division is too much for him. I feel sorry for Pacman on Nov 14, 2009, he will go back to his former division with brain damage because I don't think his body can withstand a hard hitting-welterweight-division champ like Cotto! If I were Pacman, just take politics and retire a winner and not tarnish his legacy because he's getting GREEDY! He thinks he can get a three different titles! He's wrong! Cotto is no De la Joya and Hatton. Cotto is two years younger and stronger. I don't care about speed, I care about a powerful punch that can break Pacman's ribs! Pacman's popularity grewo because of the Filipino community. Go Cotto and beat Pacman in 3rd round!

    ReplyDelete
  20. the trainer is correct! pacman will get KO'ed in 6 rounds because he will run out of gas due to much speed. remember the illegal platered margarito! that did not hurt cotto! pacman is a rookie in welterweight division!

  21. COTTO IS TOO MUCH FOR PACMAN!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Pacman will land probably over 400 punches, super lighting fast! But will it hurt Cotto? Nope, not unless Pacman will use steel handwraps like Margarito! 400 punchs vs one super solid welterweight punch to either jaw or rib or Pacman will slow him down and eventually knock him down flat on his back. Maybe Pacman will never even make it as Congressman because like other Filipino fighters who loss and ended up getting up brain injuries!

  23. If Margarito couldn't actually knock Cotto down,I don't think Pacquiao can.Even if he did load up his gloves or not, let's be honest and realistic, Pacquiao doesn't have the type of power Margarito has.And as far as Manny's ability to take apunch,Marquez connected a few left hands that rocked Pacquiao, imagine if it were Cotto landing those shots.I'm Puertorican and obviosly aCotto fan but I'm a boxing first.
